Nature trail adventure by 4x4 This extraordinary Western Australia 4x4 trip will take you nearly 2000km through the most rugged, only sporadically visited parts of Australia. If you appreciate areas of outstanding beauty and tranquillity, this trip will be right up your street. You could explore this area independently by hiring a 4x4 and camping equipment), but a small group trip can be a more relaxing alternative. During our Western Australia 4x4 trip, you'll see several remote places difficult to reach on your own and you'll have plenty of time to explore at your own pace. What's more, your guide will be full of local knowledge and travelling tales, all brilliant stories for those evenings around the campfire during your journey across Australia. |

Day 1 - 2: Darwin - Katherine - Lake Argyle - KununurraIncludes: Lunch and dinner At around 6:00am, you'll leave Darwin and your Western Australia 4x4 trip will begin. You'll drive along the 'track' to Katherine National Park, where you'll stop for a refreshing dive into Edith Falls and a visit to the famous Katherine Gorge. Then, you'll travel further west towards the town of Timber Creek, where you'll spend the night at Victoria River. The following morning you'll drive on through Gregory National Park and past the Victoria Escarpment to Lake Argyle. The Ord River Dam creates holds back the river waters that create Lake Argyle, the second largest artificial lake in Australia. It holds 9 times as much water as Sydney Harbour! The water from Lake Argyle spills into Lake Kununurra, the reservoir for the irrigation canals that irrigate 80 farms surrounding Ord River. You'll spend the night in Kununurra, the last stop where you'll encounter some semblance of civilisation. |

Day 3 - 4: Kununurra - Bungle BunglesIncludes: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
This morning you'll visit Kununurra, the modern city centre of the Ord River irrigation scheme. You'll also visit the picturesque Hidden Valley National Park known as the mini Bungles. Afterwards, you'll take a scenic drive with incredible views through the Durack Ranges. Then, it’s a long rugged 4x4 journey to the famous Bungle Bungles National Park (known as Purnululu by the Aboriginals). At the end of the day as you sit back and relax at your campsite, you'll see the sun set above the Osmond Ranges. Without a doubt, a visit to the Bungle Bungles is the highlight of this Western Australia 4x4 trip. You'll see many unusual rock formations, Frog Hole Gorge with its remarkable variety of flora and fauna, the breathtaking Echidna Chasm and last but not least, the Cathedral Gorge. This last gorge is home to the bee-hive shaped rock domes with orange and black stripes which make this park famous. There are optional helicopter flights above the area to help you see more of the natural beauty of the area. When you return to your campsite at the end of Day 4, you'll enjoy another beautiful sunset, dinner and some much needed sleep.

Day 5 - 6: Bungle Bungles - Parry Farm - Gibb River RoadIncludes: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Today you'll leave the Bungle Bungles behind and head towards Wyndham and the Five Rivers Lookout, the next stop on your Western Australia 4x4 trip. You'll also make a pit-stop at Turkey Creek. You'll camp at a semi-permanent camp at Diggers Rest Cattle Station or otherwise at Parry Farm, a paradise for bird lovers. The following day, you'll ride across the, at times very difficult to cross, Gibb River Road straight towards the famous El Questro Station which spans more than 40.000 acres. It hasn't been a farm since 1991, but it has become a strong promoter of eco-tourism. You'll take a walk through the beautifully located Cockburn Range and you can go for a swim beneath the waterfall at Emma Gorge. Before you settle down for the night, you'll cross the Pentecost River and drive past a number of spectacular gorges.

Day 7: Gibb River RoadIncludes: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
There's still quite alot of ground to cover on your Western Australia 4X4 tour, and today you'll cross the Gibb River Road, passing through spectacular mountain ridges straight through the Kimberleys. There will be a few opportunities to leave the road and go for a swim, for instance at Jacks Waterhole. You'll explore several different gorges such as the Barnett, Manning, Adcock, horseshoe shaped and shadowy Galvins Gorge. We can't say for certain which gorges you'll actually see, as the accessibility of these gorges depends on the time of year you'll be travelling. Later on, you'll head to Bell Creek Gorge where you'll set up camp for the night in a simple bush camp.

Day 8: Bell Creek Gorge - Windjana GorgeIncludes: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
After an early morning walk and a short swim, you'll drive through the King Leopold Mountains to the Windjana Gorge. After lunch you'll wade, armed with a torch, through the ice cold water of Tunnel Creek to a 750m deep underground cave. While inside you'll see small, white ghost bats on the roof of the cave. After leaving the cave, you'll see the unusual rock formations at the foot of the Napier Range along with some very unique wall paintings. This is a really unforgettable part of our Western Australia 4X4 tour. This evening you'll camp at Windjana.

Day 9: Windjana - BroomeIncludes: Breakfast and lunchToday you'll go on safari! Get ready to see fresh water crocodiles and a 350 million year old reef wall filled with fossils that reaches out 90m above the river. Afterwards, you'll visit the town of Derby which is surrounded by giant mud plains. You'll also visit the Boab Prison Tree, an enormous hollow tree that once served as a prison. Finally, you'll see Broome looming in the distance, once the pearl centre of the world. This is where your trip ends. Here, you can visit an open air cinema in China Town or simply enjoy the white sands of Cable Beach, about 6km from the city, where sun, turquoise waters and catch the last breathtaking sunset during your Western Australia 4x4 trip.From December to April, the Gibb River Road and the Bungles are closed and an alternate programme will be offered. |
