Day 1: Sydney - Canberra

Today you'll pick up your hire car at the city office or at the airport and you'll start driving south. After you pass the outskirts of Sydney you'll pass through the forested hills leading to Canberra. This is an easygoing drive and you'll have plenty of time to stop along the way to stretch your legs a bit.

Day 2: Canberra - Cooma - Adaminiby

This morning you'll have plenty of time to look around Canberra, Australia's capital city. Visit the Parliament House - home of the federal parliament or visit Lake Burley Griffin, the city's centrepiece fringed by gardens with picnic areas. A walking, cycling, jogging path runs around the lake. There are also cruises on the lake, starting from Acton Ferry Terminal, at the north end of Barrine Drive. Bicycles, rowing boats, sailing dinghies and pedalos can also be hired here. Later in the afternoon, a very scenic route will take you through the foothills of the Snowy Mountains and into the town of Cooma. At the end of the day you'll spend the night at the San Michelle Farm. Your total driving distance today will be 120km.

Day 3: Farmstay

You'll spend today on an actual Australian merino sheep and cattle farm; a great way to get a good impression of what life is like here. Aside from regular farm activities, you can also choose to go on a horseback ride (for both novice and experienced riders; additional fee to be paid on location) or you could play a game of tennis. If that sounds a little too ordinary, you can also try your luck at gold mining in the Numeralla River. We can't guarantee you'll strike it rich, however apparently there are some who still find a few nuggets here and there. The homestead you'll be staying at has room for 16 guests. You're more than welcome to help out around the farm... or not, it's up to you.

Day 4: Adaminiby - Albury

Today you'll travel straight through the Snowy Mountains, affectionately known as the Snowies by locals, to the city of Albury on the banks of the Murray River. The total driving distance for today is approximately 320km. You'll have plenty of time to explore the Snowies and to visit the vineyards surrounding Albury. This is one of the most beautiful routes in southern Australia!

Day 5: Albury - Melbourne

Today Hume Highway will take you to the city of Melbourne where broad boulevards, Victorian architecture, skyscrapers and historic trams are a part of what makes this city so special. Once you reach Melbourne you'll drop off your hire car at the city office or at the airport. Be sure to call ahead so that you know what time the city office closes.
