Why travel in a Space campervan alpha?The Space campervan is actually a type of campervan car; it's a mix between a car and a campervan. It's affordable, compact and completely new. It's very different from other campervans:- despite its streamlined shape, it fits the longest beds in campervan land.... they are 2.10m - the spic splinter new Space campervans have a refrigerator (not an ice chest), a 2-pits gas cooker, gas, water, light and a cd, dvd and even an iPod with monitor - because of its dimensions it's much easier to use in the city - for a set price of £14 per day extra you can hire a rooftop tent; this will make the campervan suitable for 4 people instead of 2 - bed linen, cooking utensils and a second battery are all ready and available; the second battery actually charges itself as you drive so that you'll have light and your dvd player available at night without needing a campsite with power outlets - there are always 4 chairs with seat belts, air-conditioning and power steering in each campervan - if you wish you can hire an extra tent, set of chairs, table or a canopy roof |
Terms & conditions Space campervan hireIncluded during campervan hireHire, unlimited kilometers, Australia's VAT (Goods and Services Tax 10%), standard insurance (excluding windshield wiper damage) and all equipment available in the campervan: cooker, bed linen, cutlery and DVD/CD/MP3 player. A table, chairs, a tent and a roof rack for extra baggage can be hired for an additional fee. Extended insurance coverage Standard insurance includes partial CDW insurance and complete third party insurance. Third party insurance is compulsary in Australia, however liability differs per state. That's why we strongly recommend purchasing proper travl insurance prior to your departure to Australia. If you are responsible for an accident, this insurance will cover your liability as long as you followed the terms & conditions of the insurance. If you drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol or drive unsafely, your coverage will cease to exist and you will be liable for all damage. |

Your excess is AU$ 2000 or AU$ 2500 if you are under the age of 25. You are also responsible for any expenses you make while your campervan is in the garage for repairs. The insurance also excludes: damage to roof and undercarriage of a vehicle and damage to tires and glass. A separate premium of AU$ 5 per day, will cover loss or damage to windshield wipers and windows (except for the sun roof). Don't forget to contact the campervan hiring office if you are ever involved in an accident.
Deposit
A credit card registered to the main drivers is required to pay a deposit on a campervan (AU$ 2000 or AU$ 2500 for drivers aged 21 - 24). The amount will be frozen in your account, but not actually charged yet like most hiring companies would do. Therefore there are no charges when the deposit is eventually released back to you.
Excess pay-off
If you wish you can pay off your excess on the spot for an additional AU$ 20 per day. Drivers under the age of 25 will have to pay AU$ 25 per day. If you are involved in an accident, you will have to pay off the excess once more for the rest of the hiring period.
When paying off your excess, this does not include: single vehicle accident damage, damage of equipment inside the campervan and water damage caused by driving through water or on the beach. Damage to windshield wipers and glass are however covered. Damage is also not covered if you break the terms & conditions of your insurance. If you drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, if you drive unsafely or if you drive on roads that are you are not allowed to drive on, you will not be covered by your insurance.
Where not to drive
Driving a campervan is only allowed on paved or otherwise maintained roads. Driving on sand roads is not allowed unless the roads are well maintained and are for instance main roads to official camp sites. A space campervan can be driven to Tasmania, Kangaroo Island and Magnetic Island.
Driver's licence
You must have had a valid driver's licence for at least 1 year and you must be over the age of 21. If your driver's licence is in English you will not need an International Driver's Licence, the hiring company will accept your regular driver's licence. If you have a driver's licence issued in a language other than English, you will also need to have an International Driver's Licence.
Roadside assistance
There is 24-hour roadside assistance available to all who hire a Space campervan. A surcharge of AU$ 85 will be charged if roadside assistance is required for non-mechanical issues such as: locking keys in the campervan, losing keys, not charging battery on time, flat tires, an empty fuel tank or tanking the wrong fuel. Small mechanical repairs costing less than AU$ 100 can be done without contacting the hiring office. You'll receive a refund for your expenses once you return the campervan and supply the hiring office with a receipt.
Before having larger repairs made to the campervan, always contact the campervan hiring office. The hiring office is not responsible for expenses made while a campervan is being repaired (accommodation etc.). If your DVD/CD player, refrigerator, water pump or cooker breaks, this is not considered mechanical damage that would stop you from travelling any further. Therefore you will not receive compensation for the period of time that the campervan is being repaired.
Hiring period
Space campervan hire is determined per calendar day. The minimum hiring period is 5 days if you pick up your campervan in one location and bring it back to the same location. The minimum hiring period is 10 days for one-way hire. Hiring locations are open from 10:00 through 16:00. You'll have a grace period of 1 hour until 17:00 to return a campervan; after this time you will be charged an additional day of campervan hire. For each additional day you keep the campervan beyond what was originally agreed upon, you'll pay the local daily rate plus a AU$ 50 fine per day. If you return the campervan early, you will not be reimbursed for unused days since there is very little chance that the hiring company can find a new person to hire the campervan for the remaining days.
One-way
Minimum hire period for one-way hire is 10 days. For less than 14 days of campervan hire you'll pay a set surcharge for one-way hire of AU$ 200.
Extras
If you pay for extras with your credit card you'll be charged a 1.5% surcharge for Visa and MasterCard and 3% using Diner's or Amex.
Terms & conditions are always subject to change by the hiring company. When you pick up your campervan you'll receive a current copy of the official, binding terms & conditions.
Please note: the speed limit on most highways in Australia is 110km per hour and 60km in inhabited areas, unless otherwise indicated.
