Day 1: Cairns - Palm CoveYou'll be picked up in Cairns and after less than an hour you'll arrive at Palm Cove. The name of this place actually says it all; it's a small inlet on the Pacific Ocean filled with palm trees. This is where you'll check into your resort which is located directly on the boulevard looking out over the ocean. The resort has a swimming pool, spa, parking lot and playground for children. Each room has a balcony or veranda, air conditioning and a refrigerator. |

Day 2: Palm Cove AustraliaPerhaps you'll wake up today to the sound of happy white cockatoos; they start singing as soon as the sun starts shining. After a tasty breakfast (excluded) you'll have plenty of time to relax on the beach or by the pool. There is a long stretch of beach and usually it's quite peaceful. You could also go for a beach walk towards the pier or towards Clifton Beach (south of Palm Cove). After arriving at Clifton Beach you could have lunch at Clifton Capers Bar & Grill. We really liked this informal restaurant with its wide variety of dishes. From Clifton you can take the blue "Sun Bus" back to Palm Cove, where you can settle in by the pool while sun slowly begins to set.Tonight you can have a typical 'Aussie' style dinner. All throughout Australia you'll find bbq's on beaches that you can use free of charge. If you pick up some meat, veggies and drinks at the local supermarket in the afternoon, you'll be able to enjoy dinner while looking out over the sea with your feet in the warm, soft sand... |
Day 3: End of Palm Cove tourOn the third day of this trip, you'll usually have the morning to do as you please. Many travellers conclude their trip through Australia here and decide to fly back to Europe at this point. If you decide to do this as well, a transfer bus will take you straight from the beach to Cairns Airport which lies only 15 minutes away. If you don't feel like going home just yet, you can also keep travelling with the module Coral sea meets rainforest to the Great Barrier Reef and Cape Tribulation. You could also fly to the Outback or pick up a hire car in Cairns and go on the Rainforest and reef drive. If you rather not do the driving yourself, you can choose to have someone else do the driving for you and go on the Oz east coast escape. |

Tips to follow your Palm Cove tour...Driving in and around CairnsIf you plan on picking up your hire car in the centre of Cairns, you can combine this with a visit to Kuranda, a village in the heart of the rainforest. There are several different parks in this area, such as Birdworld, Butterfly Sanctuary and Koala Gardens, and Aboriginal markets. At Koala Gardens you can feed kangaroos and wallabies and even hold a koala bear. This is truly Australian and brilliant for kids. The Atherton Tablelands are just a little further down the road. This area is known for various waterfalls, such as the Milla Milla Falls, and the tea plantations in the hills Hot air balloon ride above the Atherton Tablelands It's also possible to go on a sunrise hot air balloon ride above the Tablelands. This can be arranged locally. Keep in mind that it requires a very early start at 5:00. After a 30-minute balloon ride (approximately AU$165 per person) you'll have a champagne breakfast. Once you're up in the air, you'll see the sun rise from behind the hills and watch kangaroos hopping around below you.... |
