Day 1: Darwin - Litchfield - Mary RiverIncludes: Lunch and dinnerThis morning you'll have a refreshing start to your Northern Territory adventure tour - the waterfalls of Litchfield National Park. You'll have the entire morning to admire various waterfalls such as the Florence, Tolmer and Wangi. You'll also see the Buley Rock Hole and be amazed by the enormous red clay magnetic termite hills. At Mary River you'll trade in your bus for a small boat for a spectacular cruise through the Mary River Wetlands System, the largest wetlands of the southern hemisphere. You'll encounter extraordinary flora and countless crocodiles (lovingly referred to as ‘salties’ here). The cool rainforest, with its billabongs running through it, is home to all kinds of different animals. The area is a favourite among fishing enthusiasts who come to fish for the typically Australian ‘barramundi’ here. You'll probably find this fish on your plate at some point during your trip! You'll dine and spend the night at a nearby secluded private camp that has a bar, bistro and swimming pool. |

Here, you can discover ancient Aboriginal rock art and learn the history of the Aboriginals which dates back an incredible 25,000 years. Historic landscapes and traditions through the ages are displayed in the rock-art created on the rock walls. Afterwards, if you're up to it, you can clamber to the top of a rocky lookout for a fabulous view across the Nardab floodplain. Next, you'll continue travelling to the wetlands at Maguk (also known as Barramundi Gorge), where a hike will be rewarded with a reviving swim in the plunge pools. At the end of the day you'll spend the night at our permanent campsite in Kakadu National Park. |

SeasonsFrom December to May (depending on the weather, which is unpredictable), during the tropical summer, the programme is adjusted somewhat since the Jim Jim and Twin Falls are closed due to poor road conditions leading to the falls. The main advantage of travelling to the park during this time of year is that the park attracts fewer tourists and is therefore very quiet. It's important to note that Twin Falls are located on Aboriginal land. The boat service to the falls is run by Aboriginals, who can at any time decide to close the falls. |
