Insurance
Standard insurance includes full CDW coverage (third party insurance), which is compulsory in Australia these days. Keep in mind that this insurance only covers damage to your vehicle and to third parties, but not to yourself. That's what you'll need travel insurance for. If you are responsible for an accident, your insurance will cover your liability as long as you followed the rules of your insurance. However if you drink and drive or drive recklessly, you won't be covered and you'll be liable. The excess on this insurance is AU$ 2500. Drivers below the age of 21 have an excess of AU$ 3500. You're also responsible for the small repairs to the campervan. The following is excluded from the insurance: damage to the roof and undercarriage of the vehicle and damage to tires and glass. A separate premium of AU$ 5 per day applies for coverage of loss or damage to windshield wipers and the windows. Please make sure to contact the campervan hiring company any time you are involved in an accident. Deposit A credit card with the name of the main driver is necessary in order to pay a deposit. The amount of the deposit is charged to the credit card. An administrative fee will be charged when the deposit is released at the end of your trip. The amount of the administrative fee depends on your credit card company; usually it's only a few percent. |

Excess pay-off
1. It's possible to pay off your excess to an amount of AU$ 1200 for an additional AU$ 12 per day. For an extra AU$ 20 per day, you can pay off your excess up to AU$ 100.
If you do have an accident, you'll have to once again pay off your excess for the final days of your trip.
The following pay-off applies to drivers below the age of 21:
For an additional AU$ 22 per day, the excess can be paid off up to AU$ 1200. For an additional AU$30 per day, you can pay off your excess up to AU$ 250.
2. There's a special all-inclusive rate of £ 11 per day, which includes 2.5% local surcharges, a table, chairs and the AU$ 15 for a bottle of gas. This option must be reserved and paid when booking your trip.
It's not possible to pay off the excess for: a single vehicle accident (for instance if you roll a campervan), items that are broken inside the campervan, the undercarriage and the hood of the campervan and water damage because of driving through the water or on the beach. Damage is also not covered if you do not follow the rules of the contract. If you drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol or if you drive recklessly or on roads unfit to drive the campervan on.
Driver's licence
Contrary to other campervans, the minimum age for driving a Crea camper is 18. However you must have had your driver's licence for at least 2 years when hiring a campervan. If your driver's licence is in English, then you will not need and international driver's licence and your regular driver's licence will suffice. An international driver's licence is also an acceptable alternative.
Roadside assistance
You will be provided with an emergency telephone number for 24-hour assistance. A surcharge will apply if you call the number for non-mechanical issues such as having locked yourself out of the campervan, losing keys, not charging a battery on time, flat tires, not tanking fuel on time or tanking the wrong kind of fuel. Small mechanical repairs which cost less than AU$ 50 can be made without contacting the hiring office. You'll get your money back for these small repairs when bringing back the campervan and presenting them with the receipt of the repairs. For larger repairs you must always contact the hiring office before having the repairs made. The hiring office is not responsible for additional costs that result from a campervan being repaired (accommodation etc.).
Where not to drive
Campervans may only be driven on paved roads or otherwise maintained roads. Driving on sandy roads is not permitted unless the road has been well maintained and leads to an official campsite. A campervan may not be brought along to Tasmania, Northern Territory and West Australia.
Hiring period
Campervan hire is charged by calender day. The minimum hiring period is 10 days. The hiring offices are open from 9:00 - 16:30. You'll have a one hour buffer, however after 17:00 you'll be charged for an additional day of campervan hire. For each additional day you keep the campervan above the number stated on the contract, you'll pay the local daily rate plus a fine of AU$ 50 per day. If you return your campervan sooner, you will not be reimbursed for the unused days since chances are slim the hiring office can find someone else to hire the campervan for those few extra days.
One way
De Crea camper is available in Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns and Melbourne. If you decide to pick up the campervan in one location and drop it off in another, you'll pay AU$200. The drop off fee is waived if you hire a campervan for 21 days or more.
Extras
If you pay for any additional costs with your credit card, you'll be charged an additional 1.75% for using your Visa or Mastercard and additional 4.5% for using your Diner's Card or Amex.
Terms and conditions are always subject to change by the hiring company. When you come to pick up your vehicle, you'll receive a copy of the most recent, official, legally binding terms and conditions. Keep in mind that the maximum speed on most Australian highways is 110 km per hour; in rural areas it's usually 60km unless otherwise indicated.
