Day 1: Cairns - Daintree Rainforest Our Cape Tribulation tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Cairns. Along with your fellow other travellers, you'll travel by minibus along a winding coastal road across the lush green coast of Queensland. You'll head north towards the rainforests and coastal town of Port Douglas, where you'll visit the Rainforest Habitat for close encounters with the cassowary and the tree kangaroo. You'll also have some time to look around on your own. Next, the Cape Tirbulation tour continues to the Mossman Gorge in the southernmost part of Daintree National Park, the oldest national park of the continent. You'll go on a short guided walk and a swim in the gorge. Some of the plant and animal species have lived here for 100 million years without significant changes to their appearance. |
You'll then drive on to the town of Mossman for lunch (excluded) before heading further north for our Cape Tribulation tour. Cape Tribulation is known as the only place in Australia where the tropical rainforest meets the beach. This is exactly what you can expect to see when you reach your accommodation, as you'll spend the night in a cabin surrounded by jungle but only a few metres away from the beach. After you've settled into your jungle cabin (with private bathroom and air conditioning), you can go take a walk on the beach and perhaps even swim in a creek surrounded by hanging vines. After a shower, you can participate in an optional evening bush walk with a trusty headtorch (approximately AU$28). The guide will shine his torch on crickets, large spiders (eek) and maybe even chameleons. |
Day 2: Great Barrier Reef - Cairns This morning, you'll be collected at your accommodation at 9:00 for a boat trip on the Great Barrier Reef. Stretching across an enormous 2000km the reef is considered the world's largest living organism which, apparently can even be seen from the moon! |
During the boat ride you'll have a chance to go snorkelling - all necessary equipment is on board and can be used free of charge. You'll see amazing coral, thousands of colourful fish and rare sea turtles. You can also go for an introductory dive (surcharge to be paid on the spot). If you are a certified diver, be sure to bring along your certification. For lunch, you'll be treated to an elaborate lunch buffet with plenty of fresh fruit (included). Afterwards you can lounge on deck and sunbathe. Towards the end of the afternoon the boat will head back to Cape Tribulation and you'll be taken back to Cairns. If you want to spend another night in the rainforest at Cape Tribulation, you can book an additional night. Instead, you may want to have your driver drop you off at Palm Cove where you can spend a few days on the stretches of beach lining the Pacific Ocean. Afterwards, spend the night in Cairns and then start off on a self-drive module along the east coast or enjoy an Oz east coast escape with a group of international travellers and let someone else do the driving. |
