Kangaroos in the Blue MountainsJust an hour from Sydney you'll find a mountainous area with spectacular views, great trails for bush walks and wild kangaroos. During this Blue Mountains tour, you'll travel in a small group from Sydney to this incredibly beautiful mountain range. In the Blue Mountains, you'll hike in the fresh mountain air through forests and past steep valleys, waterfalls and rock formations. The Three Sisters, shown in the picture to the left, is one of the highlights of this trip. The Blue Mountains are overgrown with the favourite food of koala bears -eucalyptus trees. Unfortunately though, there's only a slim chance that you'll actually see these shy creatures face-to-face. However, from time to time you'll probably come across Australia's giant hopping teddy bear, the kangaroo. There are heaps of them living in this park. At the end of your Blue Mountains tour, you'll take a spectacular train journey down the mountain. Once you reach the base of the mountain, you'll return to Sydney for the night. |

Day 1: Sydney - Blue Mountains tour - waterfalls and forestsThis morning you'll wake up early for our active Blue Mountains tour from Sydney. You'll be picked by a bus in a central location in the city. Once you leave Sydney through the suburbs and drive towards the Blue Mountains, you'll see the landscape gradually become greener and there will be more hills surrounding you. You'll make a pit stop at the Olympic Park, where you'll see the eternal flame and a large monument honouring the gold, silver and bronze prize winners of the 2000 Olympic Games. At around 11:00 you'll reach the top of one of the Blue Mountains. You'll leave the bus at a spot known for attracting many wild kangaroos. This will probably be your first photo opportunity with a kangaroo. If you're lucky, you'll get up close and personal. |

After meeting the roos, it's time for some action. You'll go on a 3-hour hike through the Blue Mountains, surrounded by eucalyptus trees and steep rock formations. At the top of the rocks, you'll see what this area is named after. You'll look out over the mysterious Blue Mountains, where the typical Australian eucalyptus emits a certain blue-hued dust that makes the mountains look blue. As you walk, you'll look up and see the Wenthworth waterfalls looming in the distance, with water plunging into the pools below. After a while you'll reach a quiet place where you'll sit down for a savoury lunch of sandwiches, salad and fruit with a panoramic view out over the mountains. Once you've had enough to eat you'll walk down 860 steps into Jamison Valley, a World Heritage rainforest. While you're here you'll visit Katoomba Falls and the icon of the Blue Mountains, the rock formation called The Three Sisters. There are plenty of Kodak moments along the way that you can use to catch your breath when the hike gets tough. |
|
Once you reach the valley, you'll board a train that travels along the steepest tracks in the world for an exciting ride back to the bus. The train ride only takes 5 minutes, during which you'll travel high-speed through the trees with an incredible view and an adrenaline rush in your stomach. The end of the train ride marks the end of the Blue Mountains tour. |
