Australia campervan rental conditionsBelow you'll find the terms & conditions for hire of a Cheapa, Hitop, Eurocruiser, Eurotourer, Eurocamper and 4x4 campervan. If you would like to hire a Hippie campervan or a Space campervan, other terms & conditions apply and can be found on their own separate pages. We recommend reading the terms & conditions carefully. Australia Travel Plan works with a renowned local hiring company with an excellent reputation and high level of (24-hour) service. If you decide to hire a campervan in several different locations, we will add up the total number of days to make sure you benefit from cheaper rates in other categories if possible. The Cheapa camper is older than other campervans (they're 2 - 5 years old and have an average of 150,000km on them), which is why it is more affordable. The terms & conditions for this campervan differ somewhat from the other campervans and these can be found below. If you have any questions after reading through this, please do not hesitate to contact us. |

For standard campervans you'll pay AU$ 250 in one way fees when hiring a campervan for less than 20 days. If you decide to hire a campervan for 20 days or more, the one way fees will be waived. For all Cheapa models you'll pay AU$ 250 in one way fees, no matter how long you hire your campervan for. An additional surcharge of AU$ 750 applies when picking up or dropping off your campervan in Broome. Only the Hitop and 4x4 campervan can be hired in Broome.
Hiring period
There's a minimum hiring period of 7 days, except on the following routes where there's a minimum of 5 hiring days:
- Sydney / Melbourne or vice versa
- Sydney / Brisbane or vice versa
- Melbourne / Adelaide or vice versa
There's a 10-day minimum hiring period on all routes Between December 15th, 2009 and January 5th, 2010. The day you pick up your campervan determines the eventual price. When hiring a campervan for a longer period of time, the daily rate will become more affordable. If you drop off your campervan too late, you'll be charged a hiring fine based on the extra days or hours you've kept the campervan for and local hiring rates. If you decide to drop off your campervan early, you will not be reimbursed for unused days or hours.
Deposit
A deposit can only be made by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Diner's Club). The credit card holder must be present personally to sign for the deposit. Depending on the insurance you've purchased (see excess pay-off), the deposit will be charged to your credit card when you pick up the campervan (make sure you have sufficient credit). Once you return the campervan in its proper state, the deposit will be returned to your credit card. You will not be reimbursed or charged for any exchange rate fluctuations.
Multi-hire
Consecutive rentals can be combined to qualify for a long-term discount rate. If drop off of a vehicle and pick up of a new vehicle occurs on the same day then a day each will be charged per respective vehicle. Unfortunately, combinations of a standard and Cheapa campervan hire do not count for a discount rate. Multiple rentals are treated as separate rentals in regards to the one way fee and insurance.

Where to drive, where not to drive
- you are not allowed to drive any type of campervan (except for the 4x4 campervan) on unpaved roads and off-road
- you are not allowed to drive outside of the cities in the Northern Territory and West Australia in the dark, because of the danger of hitting kangaroos or other animals
- Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls in Kakadu are not accessible by campervans
- 4x4 campervans may be driven on official unpaved roads; however for the following areas you'll need explicit permission from the hiring office: all islands, Tasmania (Cheapa campervans), Simpson Desert, Gunbarrel Highway, Cape York (north of Daintree River), Oodnadatta Track, Birdsville Track, Tanami Track, Gibb River Road, Kalumburu Road, Warburton Road, Strzelecki Track, Cape Leveque, Bungle Bungles and Plenty Highway
- you are not allowed to drive any campervan along the Canning Stock-route, through 'The Lost City' in Litchfield Park, in Cape York (between December and May), in the Old Telegraph Road area and along the last 2km of Lennard River Gorge Road
- you are not allowed to drive above the snow level (winter season is from June through September)
In extreme weather conditions, the hiring office reserves the rights to making further additions or changes to the info above.
Campervan categories
Campervan bookings are always made based on category and not on the basis of make or model. The models mentioned are examples. If there are no campervans available in the category you made a booking for, a higher category campervan will be offered at the same price. If you would like to purchase an upgrade to a different campervan type, then a surcharge will apply based on local rates.
Baggage
Space in a campervan is always limited. Many travellers bring along more baggage than can be stored away in their campervans. Soft travel bags are easier to store away then hard-shell suitcases.
Car hire information subject to change
All information regarding local rates, one-way fees, insurance premiums and terms & conditions can be changed without prior warning or changed due to changes in local legislature.
Detailed information is available at the car hire office and subject to change. Always ask for a paper copy of all car hire terms & conditions when picking up your car. These are the only legally binding, valid terms & conditions.
